Expectations & Responsibilities
Things to know before you start your first day
General Expectations for Code Senseis
👕 Dress Code
Wear your ‘Code Sensei’ shirt or sweatshirt, nametag/lanyard while working. Pants should be business casual: clean, well-fitting, free of rips and tears; shorts and skirts should be just above the knee or below. Feel confident at work, but keep makeup, accessories, and hairstyles low-key.
📲 Phones
Phones, smartwatches, or earbuds are not permitted in the Dojo when there are students present. It is concerning for a parent entering the location to see a Code Sensei distracted by other devices and not engaging with their child.
📅 Scheduling
Make sure you are logged into the Homebase app in order to receive updates on what is going on in the center. Read your shift details from your Center Director to ensure you are sufficiently prepared for your shift.
🗣️ Communication
Code Senseis should communicate professionally with Ninjas, each other, parents, and their location’s Owners/Directors. Our Mission, Core Principles, Vision, and Core Values are for us as well as our enrolled families and communities.
🙏 Physical Contact
High-fives and fist bumps with Ninjas are always encouraged, with permission from the Ninja. Contact beyond that should be avoided. Respect everyone’s personal space.
🧠Neuro-inclusivity: show respect and sensitivity!
Be mindful that every Ninja learns and communicates differently. Some may need extra time or different methods to understand instructions. Be patient, flexible, and supportive. If you notice a Ninja struggling, offer help in a way that works best for them. Respect sensory needs—keep an eye on noise levels and avoid overwhelming situations. Everyone should feel welcome and valued!
🧑🏫 Your Role as a Code Sensei
The best Code Senseis are always interacting with Ninjas proactively, not reactively. They do not wait for Ninjas to initiate conversations but engage their Ninjas enthusiastically with an equal distribution of attention and time to each Ninja.
Creating the right atmosphere in the dojo is important to ensure a positive energy flow.
All Sensei, no matter what role should be fully engaged with the students at all times, no matter if there is one student or 25 students in the Dojo.
💻 CREATE Code Senseis
CREATE Code Senseis should bring a positive attitude and growth mindset when supporting ninjas in the CREATE program. They should be asking open-ended questions to help Ninjas find solutions to problems that they inevitably encounter.
